Caravan Racing

Well the time is ticking away to the great day of racing we call Caravan Racing!!! It is good to see that there have been already a couple of attempts attending the track to being tested. These range from basic shoe boxes with wheels, to full suspension version, there is even a school getting involved.

There are 2 question that keep getting asked about it so I will asnswer them again now for everyone.

When is it??  The Race is on Sunday 31st January 2010

What are the Rules?? The caravan has to be a minimum of the same length  of the towing vehicle if not longer. The caravan has to be securly attached so it does not come of while racing.

Some people has shown at interest to do a demolition derby at the end of the day but that is purely optional.

So come on everyone, support this great fun event as it is for a truely good cause.

Over the last few weeks the website has been undergoing a radical new look website, so far things are going well and the forum has now been embedded into the main site.  There are several little bugs and various bits that need tidying up but other than that everything is up and running.

If you do discover any problems then please do hesitate to contact us.

Caravan Racing

caravanAfter the Lost of a great person last month it has been decided that we are going to support the family and hold a race in memort of Tony and raise money for charity as the request of the family.

So we are going to do a charity race with a difference, we are doing a Days Racing with Caravans. This was because his son suggested it one day with his father at the track as they were both ex-banger racers, and they have done this with full size vehicles.

So come on everybody and join in the fun, and to find out more please follow the link below:-

New Dates are Added

A Great Loss to the Club

This week I have been informed that Tony Beaumont, Jack’s Father passed away this week.  He was a excellent mechanic – this can be seen but the way Jack’s cars got faster and won the Last Truggy Quarter Championship, a great member of the club – always helping out where ever possible whether it be marshaling or getting others going, a great friend – was known by everyone in the club and no one has ever had a bad word to say and he was always having a great laugh and most of all a great father – this can be seen by the way he has bought up Jack.

Tony you made a huge impact on the club and all it’s members and you will be missed by us all. Sympathies go out to the rest of the family from us all.

More Track Work and Improvements

Lets Get DiggingOn Saturday 3rd October we had another maintenance day. This time the main purpose of the work was to rebuild the wall ride on the right hand side of the track. Since it was first built in the very beginning it has taken a lot of hard racing result in some serious wear and tear producing some pot holes.Rollering the ground

We had a good turn out of club member to help do the work, and event a lot of child were brought along to help out with the digging, fetching, moving borrows and raking after the grass was cut for the last time this year.

Compacting the SoilA lot of hard work went into the track as in order to enable the track to be used on the Sunday.  We had the use of Whacker Plate which meant once the soil was laid on the track it is compacted into the hollows that have over time appeared.

Once the day of hard work was carried out a few of us tried outGrass Cutting the changes we have done to the track and all in all it was a big thumbs up by all.

The over all main work that was carried out was the pot holes from the slalom section round to the wall ride resulting in that part of the track now being quicker. Also the triple jump down the left hand side have been worked on and the result is they have become easier to do.

To find out more please do come along and join in the fun on the track.

HDA – 8th & 9th May 2010

Just a quick update, after the great success this year when we did the 2 day racing as part of the Huntington’s Disease Assocation Fayre we have been invited back already for next year.

This time the event is being help at the old race course at Buckfastleigh and this time we are going to have a bigger area more central to the whole event so visitors the the fayre do not miss the racing or miss any of the event.

Watch this space for more information.

One very common thing we often get asked at the club is how to get the best out of the cars when racing. Regularly we point people towards a section in our forum with a link that is very helpful, however some people do not seem to find it so I am going to post the link here and on the link section on the right.
